Dr. Jaime Ponce de Leon is a Certified Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgeon who has been in practice for over 19 years in Tijuana, Mexico. As a General Surgeon, he earned his Medical Doctorate from Saint Nicholas University in the Mexican state of Hidalgo in 1991. Following that, he completed a four-year residency at Tijuana General Hospital, where he earned his specialty as a gastroenterology surgeon. By 1995, Dr Ponce was certified to practise laparoscopic surgery, often known as keyhole surgery. It is a minimally invasive type of surgery conducted in the belly and pelvic area that leaves little to no scarring and allows patients to go home the next day.

He received his accreditation from the Mexican Association of Endoscopic Surgery in 1997 and has subsequently attended several courses as both a student and a teacher, winning the esteem of both his peers and his patients. Dr. Ponce is so well-known for his skill and technique that he is routinely called to lecture at surgical conferences. He is regarded as one of the most skilled bariatric surgeons in northern Mexico.

Dr. Ponce began performing bariatric surgery using laparoscopy in 1998, after receiving certification from the Mexican Association of General Surgeons. He later studied diverse skills while attending seminars in the United States and France.
