Dr. Roberto Rumbaut is a bariatric surgeon in Monterrey, Mexico who has been performing weight-loss procedures since 1994. He was one of the first surgeons in Mexico to use the Lap-Band system, but he also does other bariatric procedures like the gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, and REALISE band. He is well-known not just as a surgeon, but also as a teacher, for his gentle heart and patience. He teaches his gastric banding procedure to 150 pupils in the United States and Latin America.
Dr. Rumbaut is also regarded as a pioneer in the bariatric sector. He refined the adjustable gastric banding surgery in 1993 by further refining it each year and contributing to the bariatric industry.
He is regarded as the first Mexican doctor to teach gastric banding to American doctors. Graduated with Honours from the School of Medicine Ignacio A. Santos, ITESM, Monterrey, Mexico in 1988. Dr. Rumbaut is an active professor at the School of Medicine Ignacio A. Santos ITESM, where he contributes in the training of bariatric surgeons and developments in laparoscopy, in addition to his busy practice at the Obesity Surgery Centre in Monterrey. He is also collaborating in research efforts at the “Centre for the Future of Surgery ” with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and Dr. Santiago Horgan.
