Dr. Sosa began his academic journey at Florida International University, earning a Bachelor of Science before completing medical school at the University of South Florida. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery, followed by a fellowship in trauma and critical care at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. His early career included an academic post as Assistant Professor of Surgery and clinical roles in trauma and general surgery at Jackson Memorial.

A pioneer in laparoscopic techniques, Dr. Sosa expanded his impact by founding The Laparoscopic Institute of South Florida, initially focused on anti-reflux procedures. His commitment to education has led him to teach surgical techniques nationally and internationally.

Since shifting his focus to bariatric surgery in 2001, Dr. Sosa has developed a reputation for clinical excellence and innovation. He serves as Bariatric Medical Director at Palmetto General Hospital, where his program holds dual accreditations from MBSAQIP and SRC, and he has earned the distinction of Master Surgeon by the Surgical Review Corporation.
