Roller Weight Loss & Advanced Surgery is a small-scale bariatric and weight loss surgery center that is run by fellowship-trained surgeons and has branches spread throughout Northwest Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma. It is an 100-employee practice with a bariatric surgery specialist providing weight loss surgery services to patients across 49 states and abroad, making Fayetteville a regional center of operation in minimally invasive weight loss surgery.

New York Bariatric Group bought the practice in 2021. Recently, the clinic has a new 10,000-square-ft free-standing ambulatory surgery center (the Roller Surgery Center) in Fayetteville. It is the first bariatric ambulatory surgery center to receive accreditation by the American College of Surgeons as a Surgical Quality Partner and under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) thereby becoming the first accredited bariatric ambulatory surgery center in Arkansas.

The clinic is also a Center of Excellence (COE) member of the Employers Centers of Excellence Network (ECEN), and one of just five to have the designation in the country. This has seen collaborations with the key employers such as Walmart, J.B. Hunt Transport, Simmons Foods and Northwest Arkansas Community College who pay bariatric surgical care to their employees.

Patient Feedback

Roller weight loss and advanced surgery has a good overall rating, with an average rating of 4.8-stars with 1279 comments on its own site, 5 stars rating on the Wupdoc (8 reviews), and 135 ratings on the healthgrades of Dr. Roller.

The practice has always received positive reviews and testimonials regarding life-changing surgical results, losing 100+ pounds, getting rid of such conditions as high blood pressure, GERD, and migraines, and having a significantly better quality of life and self-confidence. The surgical staff, especially Dr. Roller is often called reliable, well-organized, and actually caring, and the patients state that they are supported long after the surgery.

Risks & Considerations

  • No published medical weight loss prices. The non-surgical programs, semaglutide injections, and consultations costs are not indicated on the site. Pricing requires the contact of the office by the patients or attending a seminar.
  • Non-refundable reservation charge. At least one of the interviewees had been charged with a non-refundable fee of $100 in order to make an appointment, without much explicit prior notice.
  • Position on compounded semaglutide. The clinic specifically warns against unregulated and compounded GLP-1 drugs saying that it is clear that the FDA does not approve of them. They just sell FDA-approved brand-name injectables which can be more expensive.
  • Surgical risks. Like any bariatric surgery, there is the risk of bleeding, leakage, complications of anesthesia, blood clots, infections, marginal ulcers, pulmonary complications, injury to other body organs, and in extreme cases, death may occur. The long-term risks could be gallstones, hernias and nutrient deficiencies.
  • Not BBB accredited. Roller Weight Loss & Advanced Surgery is not currently accredited by the Better Business Bureau.
  • Credential transparency. While the surgeons are well-documented, specific credentials for all non-surgeon providers (nurse practitioners, physician assistants) are not always detailed on the website.
