Dr. Steven Fein
Clinic Profile
Heme Onc Call (hemeoncall.com) is said to be the first telemedicine-based hematology practice in the United States. Established and managed by Dr. Steven Fein, the practice offers leading-edge hematology consultations and management through telemedicine, focusing on blood disorders, blood cancers, in particular for women’s health, iron deficiency and pregnancy-related hematology.
Heme Onc Call has a network of iron infusion centers nationwide, including in Florida, under the name FEM Iron Infusion Centers by Heme On Call, in addition to virtual visits. The centers provide patients with IV iron therapy in a safe and comfortable environment, supported by a physician through telemedicine.
The care philosophy of the practice is to provide patients with the experience of seeing an expert in hematology in a timely and convenient manner — as opposed to a typical hematology referral that often takes months to be processed by the hospital.

Background and History
For more than 15 years Dr. Fein was a hospital-based hematologist and oncologist at the Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida (2005-2020) and built a solid foundation of experience in both malignant and non-malignant blood disorders. In those days he realised there was a problem: patients with non-cancer haematological diseases (particularly iron deficient women and pregnant patients) were waiting long periods and had limited access to established specialist care; most haematology departments had been organised around oncology.
To help with this, he created Heme Onc Call and was a leader in the model of hospital telemedicine hematology consults that were expanded to outpatient populations. He then founded the FEM Iron Infusion Centers network, tailored to offer iron infusion therapy to women in a comfortable and dedicated infusion suite, free of hospital delays, intimidating oncology setting or avoidable obstacles.
Dr. Fein is also an Assistant Professor (voluntary) in the University of Miami School of Medicine, where he teaches hematology and supervises medical students. Education, including of patients and future physicians, is a personal goal.
