Background and History

PhillyMedClub was co-founded by Dr. Roozbeh Ghavami and Dr. Wayne Raneiro, two physicians who met as students at Temple University and SMUFOM in 2001. Both physicians live in the Fishtown neighborhood — practically within walking distance of the office — and founded the practice specifically to serve their own community.

Their founding motivation: “Our primary reason for starting PhillyMedClub is to make patient care the center of our practice, to be there when you need us, and to be a practice you can trust. This is the kind of old-school medicine that our grandparents were accustomed to, but sadly has been lost over the years. Our goal is to bring back what was lost and give it a modern twist.”

Dr. Ghavami, a residency-trained internist and experienced hospitalist, brings a background in critical care and a track record of top-tier patient satisfaction — his Press Ganey scores consistently rank in the top 95% nationally. During his residency, he was the only resident to receive both the faculty award for academic and medical excellence and the nursing award for patient care and compassion, three consecutive years in a row.
